Retrospecting about the Retrospectives!

Agile, sprints, retrospectives, backlogs.... the list is endless. Are you familiar with what I am saying? Me too. In the past year, I had been going through a lot of job openings and had seen a lot of requirements in this area. I am personally a fan of the agile working style, especially because, it breaks things down to smaller steps. I can get to work more structured and schedule my To-Dos etc. But, that's my personal choice. I have heard many of my friends, my colleagues and many random people on the internet ranting about the whole agile setup. Sometime ago, my four year old and I had a little conversation. "Hey kid, what do you do in your kindergarten? How does your day go by?", I asked her. "Mama, if I go early, then I play for sometime, eat my breakfast and then it's time for our Morgen Kreis", said my daughter. "Morgen Kreis" is a German word which literally means morning round. "Aha, what do you in your Morgen Kreis", I continued. "We talk about what were the good and bad things from yesterday, activities that are planned for today" said my daughter. "What else?" I probed. "Every day one of us gets the chance to present something that we like. This is picked up through lots. I got to sing my favorite song today" said my daughter with so much of pride. "Mama, how is your day routine at office?" asked my daughter. I smiled at her and to myself and said the following. "My day is pretty much the same. I go early to work, grab my coffee, check my emails. When my colleagues arrive, we meet for our "Morgen Kreis", except that we call it "Daily Sprints, Retrospectives, and Agile amongst other things".
